Mona Moazzaz, recent graduate of California Western School of Law, completed a clinical externship at Casa Cornelia Law Center for her final semester of law school this spring 2024.  She worked on two victim cases under the Violence Against Women Act and had the opportunity to present at community outreach events throughout San Diego County. Here is her reflection of her experience.

“Casa Cornelia is like a wonderland for law school students. In a clinical externship, you see first-hand the journey of clients taking a step forward in reaching their dreams for legal protection. On top of this, you see clients being heard and seen when it comes to basic life needs–support with food, shelter, or the like. This combination of legal protection and serving one’s basic needs makes Casa Cornelia unique and makes the clinical extern feel great. After all, what better feeling than using your time and knowledge to help those when they truly need it? The staff at Casa Cornelia are selfless servants, giving a voice to those who temporarily have lost their voice. The staff also redefines power toward a definition centered on building capacity in others. I am immensely grateful for my time at Casa Cornelia and to the law center’s leadership. I would highly recommend those interested in a path of service in the legal arena to apply to Casa Cornelia.”
