COMMUNITY LEGAL RESPONSE PROJECT

RESPONDING TO URGENT IMMIGRATION NEEDS

The Community Legal Response Project is Casa Cornelia’s newest initiative—launched to meet the evolving needs of San Diego’s immigrant communities during times of heightened immigration enforcement. Through trusted partnerships and collaboration, the Project ensures that vital legal information, timely counsel, and urgent limited-scope representation are available to those most in need. While Casa Cornelia’s core programs continue to provide full scope representation, the Project team is uniquely designed as a project to complement these services and extend critical support where it is needed most urgently. Many individuals who connect through the Project may ultimately be served through Casa Cornelia’s established programs.

COMMUNITY LEGAL RESPONSE PROJECT SERVICES

Legal Consultations

When an individual is at risk for removal, timely and accurate information can make all the difference. We quickly provide legal consultations in the individual’s preferred language.

Limited-Scope Representation

In certain urgent situations, our team may offer brief legal representation to protect against imminent deportation. Whenever possible, individuals are referred to Casa Cornelia’s core programs for full-scope legal representation.

Community Outreach and Education

Our team delivers high-quality, accessible know-your-rights presentations for noncitizen community members and the organizations serving them. Topics include civil rights for noncitizens, legal pathways to status, and best practices for service providers. Experienced attorneys or trained community professionals provide all education in safe and welcoming environments.

ELIGIBILITY / ELIGIBILIDAD

IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES COALITION OF SAN DIEGO

Through our Community Legal Response Project, Casa Cornelia has partnered with Jewish Family Services of San Diego to create the Immigration Legal Services Coalition of San Diego (ILSC) to collaboratively provide consultations, outreach, and immediate and limited-scope legal assistance through trusted, partnering organizations. Individuals or their family members who need assistance related to immigration enforcement can call the ILSC hotline at (858)751-7553 to be connected to the on-call partnering organization. Operating hours are currently Monday through Friday, 9 am to 6 pm. Calls received after hours will be returned the following day during operational hours.

Neither Casa Cornelia Law Center nor the Immigration Legal Services Coalition of San Diego collects, confirms, or shares real-time information about specific immigration enforcement activities. Individuals may call to request legal support for themselves or someone they know who has been detained during such an action.
