CCLC provides pro bono representation through its staff and the support of volunteers, such as private attorneys, law students, and interpreters/translators under the mentorship of CCLC attorneys.
The Project:
The Community Legal Response Project (“the Project”) is a temporary effort by CCLC to complement its ongoing legal programs. The current federal administration is prioritizing immigration enforcement and deportation. Absent changes in federal law, those noncitizens whom CCLC serves will remain eligible to seek and be granted humanitarian immigration protection. However, accessing such protection is often contingent upon the ability to secure quality legal counsel. Further, in a climate of increased immigration enforcement, those who are eligible for humanitarian protection under the law will need to quickly access accurate and reliable legal information. Finally, CCLC believes that the most effective way to provide counsel and information to the community is through collaboration with trusted partners. Accordingly, the Project was created to serve these needs in collaboration with our partners.
The Position:
CCLC launched the Project in January 2025 and began full operation on April 1, 2025. The Program Assistant is a non-attorney professional serving within the Project that provides general administrative support to the project staff in their representation of Project clients and other Project activities. The program assistant will also support the overall client intake functions of the firm, including those processes for detained and non-detained adults and children. Tasks in support of other CCLC programs may also be assigned.
Appointment and Accountability:
The Program Assistant is appointed by the Executive Director upon recommendation by the Legal Director and is accountable to the project’s Managing Attorney.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Program Assistant will discharge the responsibilities of the position by:
- ensuring that individual clients and applicants are treated with dignity;
- recognizing the vulnerability of the immigrant population, especially those in proceedings or detention, and accommodating for cultural diversity;
- providing general administrative support to the Project staff;

- answering the Project’s legal services telephone line;
- entering applicant/client and case/file data;
- maintaining data entry requirements by following legal program protocols;
- scheduling applicant/client meetings and calls and assisting with client correspondence;
- preparing the initial physical file; tracking and managing physical case files during the established retention period and destroying such files upon conclusion of the retention period;
- assisting in case file and database maintenance;
- assisting in the collection of project data;
- providing administrative support for community presentations;
- assisting in the intake process for potential new clients for the firm generally;
- assisting in covering the reception desk and mail processing when needed; and,
- assuming responsibility for other tasks as assigned by the Managing Attorney and the Legal Director.

- Prior experience working in a law firm;
- Prior experience in the immigration law field;
